Religious Harmony

8055 284505238313522 301007542 n Why Omnism?I have walked in both the light and the dark, and I might have a unique perspective on life. I do not want to be associated with a single religion, because I believe that they all are just cut and pasted over what is the true source of God.

In my opinion, all forms of worship are just different ways for the human mind to bring understanding to a source that is incomprehensible to us in this lifetime. So, we rationalize what we think we know, trying to fully understand what we do not. My belief is that God allows us to choose our own paths, so that in the end, we learn that all paths lead back to God eventually. I have followed many religions, and they all worked for me. So, I can only assume that all religions come from the same place, otherwise they would not have worked. Each religion has a different philosophy, but share one thing in common, they have a belief in a higher power. That higher power is what makes the every day man or woman the potential that they are, but gives them the choice to make what they may of that potential. It leads to a faith in some ideal, whatever it may be.

It is my belief that all religions come from one true source. This source comes to each individual in a way that the person can understand. I choose to call this source of light God for lack of a better word. The important thing is to have REAL faith in what you believe. This source reaches out to all who seek it. I was fortunate enough to have a glimpse of this source, and in doing so was lucky enough to know that the source is real. This gives me much faith in a higher being, even though I do not know exactly what this source is.

All I know is what I experience, and I have felt the love that comes from this source if only for a minute. I also believe that this source allows many paths back to it. It is my belief that we all are a part of this source, And God has sent each one of us out into the vast Universe to learn about life and about ourselves, so that this higher being can in turn learn about itself. We are all on a path to God, just in different ways. We all shall return to this source someday, for we are a part of this source, The source I choose to call God or The Universal Divine. I am glad I have crossed your path if only to share this thought.

The message is clear to those who listen, And in most religions it is the same.

  • Be kind to one another and try to live in peace.
  • If you hurt another, you are also hurting yourself.
  • If you love another, you are also loving yourself.
  • When life is at its darkest, turn to YOUR source that you believe in and have faith.
  • Learn from your pain and you will gain wisdom.
  • All roadblocks in life are meant to teach you a lesson.
  • All experiences make you a bit more wise.
  • If you think you have nowhere to turn, then turn to yourself and listen to what you are being told. There is a message for you in your present situation.
  • Discover the hidden lessons and you will find your path. But only you have the answers that will find the truth, the truth that is inside of you.
  • Have faith in yourself and you will know what is the truth.

Church Discipline: Sects to Evangelicals

If you are looking for a good chart that relates differing sects in Christianity, this is a good start.

This is my 3rd versions in the sects series. …

At this point the chart covers the origins of the those sects that were fundamental to the development of American Christianity, going all the way back.   Arrows are for strong influence or descent, these sects are interacting with one another and passing ideas between them just as religions today do.  Coloring of the arrows is to help reduce visual complexity, and it doesn’t mean anything beyond that.  Where possible I’ve tried to include a sample work in parenthesis for each sect making it clear how I’m using the term and also demonstrating at a glance the evolution in thought.  It is also for the early part, letting the chart do double duty explicating the origins of the bible.

Sixteenth-century Italians believed that if a black cat jumped on the bed of an ill person, the person would soon die.

  • In Colonial America, Scottish immigrants believed that a black cat entering a wake was bad luck, and could indicated the death of a family member.
  • The Norse goddess Freyja drove a chariot pulled by a pair of black cats.
  • A Roman solder killed a black cat in Egypt, and was killed by an angry mob of locals.
  • Appalachian folklore said that if you had a stye on the eyelid, rubbing the tail of a black cat on it would make the stye go away.
  • If you find a single white hair on your otherwise-black cat, it’s a good omen.
  • In England’s border countries and southern Scotland, a strange black cat on the front porch brings good fortune.

Big Bird and the presidential debate

ROMNEY: Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS, I love Big Bird. Actually like you, too. But I’m not going to — I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for. That’s number one.

Pastors telling HIV-infected patients to stop medication and trust in prayer | Secular News Daily

Leaders of some West African churches in the UK are pressuring patients infected with HIV to stop taking medication and instead trust in prayer and faith healing.

Any time a religion suggests giving up medical aid and turning to prayer for healing, it sets off my Bull Shit detector. HIV will not go away with wishful thinking, which is what prayer essentially is. Their seems to be a trend with these Christian sects out of Africa to pretend they are still in the Dark Ages and have the same idiotic problems that came along with blind faith in the Church in that era.

300px IVANOV YAV HRISTA MARI1 What if Jesus had a wife?
Appearance of Jesus to Mary Magdalene after resurrection, Alexander Ivanov, 1835 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

(A) 3-inch-long piece of papyrus translated by a Harvard scholar as “Jesus” talking about “my wife” doesn’t prove he was married, but it raises the question, “What if?”

This provocative scrap, if established as authentic, runs counter to traditional Christianity. Yet local theologians say it’s unlikely it would be a game-changer for women in the Church — not even in Catholicism.

….

The discovery of the papyrus, made public by Harvard Divinity School historian Karen L. King on Tuesday at the International Congress of Coptic Studies in Rome, does reignite for some a centuries-old debate about Jesus’ marital status and wife, perhaps Mary Magdalene — a “Mary” is mentioned among the fragment’s few lines, written in Coptic.

The fragment, apparently from the 4th century, contains another partial line: “She will be able to be my disciple.”

http://www.canoncitydailyrecord.com/ci_21590504/denver-theologians-weigh-meaning-gospel-jesus-wife

Actually, if Jesus was married, it wouldn’t change much of the current state of Christianity. It might lend a little more to women being treated a little more fairly in some Churches, but in the long run wouldn’t change the fundamentals.

The nature of Jesus as a man has always been a topic of debate. The Gnostics believed he started off as a man, but when the Holy Spirit descended upon him at his baptism, he became something other than human. This idea didn’t make it into modern Christianity.

Some have pointed out that a wife was never mentioned when reference was made to the relatives of Jesus. Could this oversight be because she was one of his disciples? We only know about the chosen twelve men that were his closest students. We know hardly anything about the 70 mentioned in Luke 10:1-20.  What we do know about the life of Jesus is found in the four accepted gospels. Each of these works was written 40 years or more after the Crucifixion. There is much that is unknown about the person, that was Jesus. All we have are what his followers deemed to be noteworthy and further their movement.

New way to fight bacterial infections: ‘Naked Darth Vader’ approach could tame antibiotic resistant superbugs

Rather than trying to kill bacteria outright with drugs, Université de Montréal researchers have discovered a way to disarm bacteria that may allow the body’s own defense mechanisms to destroy them. “To understand this strategy one could imagine harmful bacteria being like Darth Vader, and the anti-virulence drug would take away his armor and lightsaber,” explained Dr. Christian Baron, the study’s lead author and Professor at the Department of Biochemistry. “A naked Darth Vader would be an easy target and similarly, pathogenic bacteria without their virulence factors would be rendered harmless and eliminated by our immune system.”

You have to hand it to a scientist that would use Darth Vader as an illustrative point. Makes it pretty easy, even for this laymen, to understand what they are talking about. Wish more would use pop culture in their explinations.

Long-lost Egyptian pyramids found on Google Earth? | Fox News

A self-described “satellite archaeology researcher” has garnered widespread media attention with claims that she has found two possible pyramid complexes in Egypt using Google Earth. But experts say her pyramids are nothing more than eroded hills infused with a heavy dose of wishful thinking.

Would be cool if it were true, turns out that they are just common buttes with a little erosion thrown in.

Haunted by the voices – The West Australian

Sir Anthony Hopkins heard them. So did Martin Luther King, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Mahatma Gandhi, Joan of Arc and Socrates. These well-known identities have all reported hearing voices – a phenomenon which is reasonably common, with 4-10 per cent of the population admitting to it.

[some skipped]

Joe Calleja, chief executive of the RFWA, said research shows that a lot of distressing voice hearing results from early childhood trauma, including sexual and physical abuse, or emotional trauma such as bullying, neglect, abandonment or the sudden death of a loved one. In one well-documented case, a man used to hear the voice of a priest who had sexually abused him.

Hearing voices can be debilitating to some. While this article gives a good overview of the issue, there are still some that the skeptics just can’t really quantifiy by these determinations. Noting, they have mentioned joan of Arc and Socrates in this article. Who can say where their voices came from, but surely all can’t be explained away by science.

Homeopaths offer to rebrand products as ‘confectionery’

Faced with an MHRA crackdown on unlicensed medicines, one of Britain’s leading manufacturers of homeopathic remedies has indicated it would be prepared to relabel its products ‘confectionery’ to circumvent regulation

Homeopathic remidies scare me. If it can’t medically be proven to be helpful, why take it? When my father was diagnosed with cardiomiopathy, he tried all sorts of suggested homeopathic supliments. Included in the list were garlic tablets and royal honey. He also started drinking aloe vera juice. Now, I’m sure none of this harmed him in anyway, but he didn’t just fall on homeopathy to treat his condition either. Those who do, run the risk of further complications in their conditions.

Supernatural Addiction (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Adults like supernatural explanations – UPI.com

Reliance on supernatural explanations for major life events — such as death and illness — increases rather (than decreases (BW Ed.)) as people age,

U.S. researchers say. Lead author Cristine Legare, assistant professor of psychology at The University of Texas at Austin, and colleagues reviewed more than 30 studies on how people — ages 5-75 — from various countries reason with three major existential questions: The origin of life, illness and death.

Seems accurate to me, I don’t know how many adults I know think that death and illness may be caused by their God.
